...the ones I love best...

my eyes are crowded with all I have seen... ~ November 9, 2002 - 9:09 p.m.

it's been so hard to write... I cram in time online between days densely packed with experiences, and I'm constantly playing catch-up on the third grade diaries. I hope you're checking them out. they may be simplified, but packed with adventures, they are.

I haven't even told you about laos, and already I'm in vietnam... vietnam means I'm nearly home. I don't know what I'm coming home to. I saw on the bbc tonight that the republicans have taken control of the country, and I just started bawling.

I've been offered a teaching job in laos, and I'm thinking about it very, very hard... I get closer to saying yes every day.

vietnam is intense. in the minibus from the airport, it looked just exactly like vietnam. that red-orange sun hanging heavily through the haze, over rice paddies and banana trees... very apocalypse now.

hanoi is unbelievable... hanoi makes me dizzy, gives me a headache, and utterly delights me at the same time... the huge packs of motorbikes, the constant blaring horns and narrow escapes, the street vendors with their baskets and poles, their conical hats, the craftsmen on the sidewalk... it's delicious and strange and lovely and every kind of intense you can imagine.

and again, it's time for me to run... I'll try to get back to you soon, I promise.

previously... * and then...
