dreaming of the sun ~ 2001-01-05 - 03:23:08

hey! both lois and tom have signed my guestbook. I like it when people sign my guestbook. it's nice to know who's lurking out there... come say hi.

so, dreams...

they've been pretty wild lately. I go through phases of either remembering my dreams or not. drew barrymore was in one the other night, telling a funny story about the time she had to be taken to the hospital with alcohol poisoning to get her stomach pumped.

last night's dream was one of my recurring ones. I have several of those, that come and go. I don't know if they actually count as recurring dreams, because they're never exactly the same-- it's more like recurring plotlines. recurring symbolism. one of my favorites is this big old house with lots and lots of rooms packed full of antiques and interesting objects. it's usually set up like some kind of tourist attraction-- you wander around and look at whatever you want, poke around, and you find clues or puzzles to solve, and in some of the rooms ghosts will appear to enact scenes for you or to pass on cryptic messages. it's like there's a mystery to solve, but first you have to figure out what the mystery is. kinda like the game myst (a very cool cd-rom game you should check out if you haven't). those dreams are always fascinating. one was an erotic dream featuring both agent mulder and agent skully. (not together, alas, but I'm not complaining). I think the house symbolizes my psyche. all kinds of interesting stuff going on in there.

but that's not the dream I had last night-- last night's plotline involves being trapped in my parents' house, which is surrounded by fascist government operatives who want to take me away and kill me. I'm trying to plot my escape, which always feels hopeless, but I know I have to try. I always wake up before either escaping or getting caught. I remember telling my mom about it once: "I keep having this dream that the government's been taken over by fascists, and they're after me." she just started laughing. "that's not a dream," she said.

I'm glad to be remembering my dreams again. I've been out of that phase for a while. agent mulder used to say dreams are the answers to questions we have not yet learned to ask. I'm fascinated by what my unconscious does when it gets me out of the way. I learn a lot about myself from my dreams.
