sign the brand-spankin'-new guestbook... a girly ramble about clothes... ~
May 30, 2003 - 10:05 p.m. I'm feeling beautiful today, in an utterly girly kinda way. it's the shirt. also the jeans. I bought my first pair of trendy bellbottom jeans in the morning market a few weeks ago. had them altered to my length by a tailor for a dollar. they fit me perfectly, and they have little flowers and vines embroidered up the seams. I feel very sexy in these jeans. if I have any complaints, it's that falling-off-the-ass lowrider cut. I liked it when hanging-off-the-hip jeans were the thing. this below-the-hips silliness really must stop. but I dig 'em. they're actually my favorite jeans at the moment. hard to believe. the last time I wore a pair of skintight jeans was something like 1992. then, a few days ago, I got a new shirt at the morning market. kinda sixties-styley, crinkly off-white muslin with three-quarter sleeves, a panel of see-through lace at the belly and corresponding panels midway down the sleeves. it's awfully cute. today I put the two things together for a party at the Big Bosses' house, a basi for their new baby. and on my way there, I was feeling really pretty cute. then I walked in, and a table full of men I see every damn day at work checked me out. it's hilarious when lao men check you out. for a culture that's so prudish in some ways, they haven't mastered the art of the subtle glance. when a lao man checks you out, he looks you UP and DOWN. when a whole tableful of men you know do it at once, it's hilarious. and after the party, when I saw lao boy on the corner, he said you are very beautiful tonight, the way I knew he would. and unlike some men, that's not something he says all the time. so yeah, I'm feelin' awfully cute. in a really girly kinda way. that's all.
