...the ones I love best...

shiny red love affair ~ May 28, 2002 - 10:13 p.m.

so I finally finished my nicotine article last night. today I celebrated-- I went up to san francisco and dropped all the money I just made on That Bike.

you know, the one I've been drooling over. a 1993 honda nighthawk CB750. red, but you can't have everything.

oh, it's so sweet. definitely got some character, little things that will need fixing-- a little rust on some of the chrome, no front turn signals, no speedometer, little dents in the gas tank-- but it's got some serious style, voluptuous curves, and once I rode it there was no turning back. it feels like this bike and I were made for each other.

I can work at fixing the detail stuff. it passed its presale inspection with flying colors. it needs a new chain, sprockets, no big deal.

the thing is, from the very first, it felt like this bike and I have known each other. it's so responsive to me. already, we have an understanding. the bike I've been riding (now returned to james) is a nice little bike, it and I liked each other-- but this bike and I, we've got a love affair going on.

I had a feeling about this bike from the first time I saw the pictures. I've been staring at them all week. oh, I love it, I do. only 50 more ccs than the last bike, but enough to give it an extra kick I can feel.

I had such a gorgeous ride home. a spectacular sunset in my side mirrors gave way to a sky just filled with stars, the air still balmy and sweet even as I got to the top of the mountain.

yeah, so it's silly to get attached to material things. I don't care.

I love my bike.
